A job interview is your chance to make a good impression on an employer and show them why you would be a great asset to them. You’ll obviously be discussing your qualifications and your previous accomplishments, but there is more to acing a job interview than simply going over a resume. You have to impress the interviewer with your soft skills, which can be challenging for some people.

If you’ve ever felt unsure about your ability to make it through a job interview, here are some tips that will help.

Be Familiar with the Job Description and the Company

You should always go into a job interview with the knowledge of the position you want. Read over the job description carefully before your interview, and be ready to cite specific reasons why you’re right for the position. You should also take the time to research the company where you are interviewing to get an idea of the culture and what will be expected of you as an employee.

Review Your Resume

Much of your interview will be spent discussing your resume, so go through it ahead of time to be ready to discuss it in depth. Be prepared to answer any questions that might arise about previous employers and your accomplishments. It’s one thing to put all of that down on a page; it’s another thing to be able to confidently discuss it in person.

Practice Your Interview

You obviously cannot plan for anything that can happen during a job interview, but you should still take some time to practice speaking. Prepare a brief overview of your skills and accomplishments, and practice saying it in front of a mirror to make sure that your body language shows that you look confident when you speak.

Prepare Questions for the Interviewer

Finally, prepare some general questions about the job for your interviewer. Ask questions about the company itself, the specific position that you are interviewing for, and anything else that you think you’ll need to know. Asking questions shows that you are genuinely interested in the position, which is a must for any job you plan to have for a long period of time.
